Summary:
A fantastically quirky read that is both humorous and enlightening!
My thoughts:
THIS BOOK.
This book is phenomenal which is incredibly surprising given its incredibly short lifespan. At 108 pages it seems almost impossible to get any coherent story from cover to cover but that is the beauty of it.
All My Friends Are Superheroes is incredibly quirky yet incredibly simple and focuses on a topic that now, too often, is hidden under layers of subplots – love.
It is reality with a touch of magical realism, everyone in it is a superhero except for the main character but that’s normal. There are superheroes everywhere. If anything, its abnormal to be normal!
We’re not talking about a group of spandex clad, cape wearing show offs instead we have superheroes who’s superpowers are their strongest characteristic, and in some sort of philosophical way, it’s basically saying that we’re all superheroes. Just each in our own specific ways.
At the end of the book, after reading about the powers within the book, you can’t help but think what your power would be!
The story is so fanciful, it’s almost like reading a quirky fairy tale. It’s an incredibly fast read – myself finishing in about an hour – but it is one of those books that you simplyHAVE to read. It leaves you uplifted and in awe of Kaufman’s exceptional story writing.
It is a wonderful love story and the superhero addition is simply a joy to read, with the superhero metaphors being incredibly creative and tongue in cheek.
It will make you smile and is certainly the perfect cure after a few heavy novels. It is just an unadulterated pleasure to read. No strings attached. It’s short and sweet without letting up on humour or epicness!
Final Thoughts:
An absolutely fantastic work of fiction. I still can’t believe that I had not heard about this book until it was kindly recommended to me by Carrie Hope Fletcher.
All My Friends Are Superheroes is on trend, on point and a must read for ANYONE!
